When the church acts like the Lord

Jesus gave His disciples the power (exousia) to preach the gospel – to heal the sick and cast out demons (see Mark 3:15). Exousia means authority or right. Jesus had the exousia to forgive sin, heal the sick and cast out demons and He had the right to use dunamis which means “might” or “mighty power”. Jesus gave His followers this same authority and power (John 14:12) and it’s still valid for His followers today because of the name and blood of Jesus!

When more churches grab hold of this, we can expect to see miracles, healings and deliverances on a regular basis. The Lord is looking for ones who "do" the will of the Father. The world is getting more wicked and even if heaven and earth pass away, His words never will.

What does the Lord want from us?

We know how to pray for ourselves and others, but just what does our God want from us? We must understand the times and seasons by asking Him about each day. We need to be content with today and take no thought for tomorrow. We are not to nurture our tomorrows! Just like a cell phone we must be plugged in to the Power Source daily to stay charged!

He is looking for a people who are without spot and wrinkle, seeking Him first in everything. And when we pray, we must not be dull of hearing. He answers us, but are we listening? James 1:21-25 cautions us not to be deceived.

He created us for fellowship and longs to spend time with us. He misses you when you don't come around.

Poll: What Do You Do When Your Alarm Rings In The Morning?

Poll: What Do You Do When Your Alarm Rings In The Morning?

Will you be God?

"Don't be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you," Hebrews 13:5

God knows you by what you do, not just what you say. Our destiny is like a train track. Even when we derail, He is waiting for us to get back on track. Our destiny is fixed! The enemy may attempt to pull us off the track, but all he can do is put stumbling blocks along the way. Do we stop and try to fix things ourselves or do we ask the Lord for help? Your destiny is sure but there are seasons along the path of life. You can miss your season just like you can miss a certain date. If you don't remember Valentines Day until February 15th, you missed it, and you will pay a price! It is the same thing with God and your destiny.

When God struck Egypt, He protected His people in Goshen! God is the same yesterday, today and forever. When all hell breaks loose on the earth, we will be protected. We are now in a new season. We must make God our helper. He is demanding that we communicate with Him about everything. We don't need to consult with our family or friends, but learn to go to the Holy Spirit for answers. "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe." Hebrews 1:1-2 With everything going on in the world today, we must seek the Lord with all our hearts and obey Him. When Jesus went to the Father, He knew that we needed someone to be here to help us so He sent us the Holy Spirit, "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever," John 14:16 . He said that He had to go, "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you." John 16:7

The Holy Spirit is faithful to Jesus and will not fail to be with us and to help us! Trust Him and stay in that situation until He extricates you. The disciples found themselves in a storm where the boat was filling up with water and sinking. They judged the Lord as unfaithful and asked Him, why He didn't care that they were perishing Mark 4:36-40. He asked them where their faith was. They were looking at the waves and getting frightened much the same way that we look at the financial situation around us. Lord, don't You care that I just lost my job? Lord, don't You care that I'm losing my house? Lord, don't You care that I don't have any new clothes? We go to the bank or our credit cards and talk to everyone but the Lord! Most of us don't have faith that He will deliver us from whatever the situation. Instead, we try to figure our way out! We seem oblivious to the fact that the Lord longs to show Himself strong on our behalf! In those situations where there seems to be no way out unless God intervenes, if we allow Him to deliver us, He gets the glory! So why not let God be God?

Covered by the Blood

The covenant that God made with Abram in Genesis 15 was a blood covenant. In ancient times, both parties to a covenant walked through the blood of slain animals. God told Abram to kill a three year old heifer, a three year old female goat and a three year old ram plus a turtledove and a young pigeon. The large animals were split in half, head to toe, and each half placed across from the other. The birds however were not split apart. Instead the birds were simply placed across from each other. Both of the covenanting parties walked through the blood indicating that a new bond was formed by the death of existing lives. When God made the covenant with Abram, He was the only one to walk through the slain animals (Genesis 15:17), thus indicating that it was up to Him to make it happen! He was the one to bring to pass the promises that He had made. Abram only had to believe that God would do what He said He would.

In Exodus 24 we see Moses reading the commandments to the people, and although they agreed to keep them, they had no power to do so. In this setting (Exodus 24:6), Moses took half of the blood of the offerings and sprinkled on the altar and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the people thus ratifying the covenant. The blood sprinkled on the altar represented God’s agreement to forgive and the blood sprinkled on the people was their bond to God! Just as Moses was the mediator between God and the people of the Moses’ day, so is Jesus the mediator of the new covenant. His blood was sprinkled on the altar (cross) and Hebrews 5:9 says that He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him! Our part is to believe and obey. The Old Testament people had to be covered by the blood! By faith we too have been covered by the blood.

Haiti

The first week of the new decade went by with very little to report. The second week of the new decade was totally different! A 7.0 earthquake shook Haiti with tens of thousands killed making the headlines on Jnuary 12th. It struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince, home of three million people. The damage to buildings is extensive and the number of injured or dead is estimated to be around fifty thousand. The country is in shambles as rescuers are frantically working around the clock to save lives. The hardest part for those with loved ones in Haiti is the waiting. They are just waiting and waiting, hoping to hear a report about his or her loved one.

Pray for the children and families devastated by this earthquake and aftershocks. Pray for hearts filled with compassion to send money as well as volunteers to help restore order to chaos. People are hungry and thirsty. Pray for the much needed relief to have quick passage into the country. Medicine and medical workers are needed. Pray for helpers to clear the streets so rescuers can reach some of the hardest-hit areas. Recovery is never easy, but with people pulling together and caring about one another, it will go much quicker.

God set him up

The first full week of the new decade has passed with little fanfare. What is the Holy Spirit doing on the earth in 2010? I believe the church is being positioned for prosperity (in life). Sometimes we are positioned to preserve the lives of our family, to preserve posterity in the earth! What do I mean by that? Consider Joseph. There are no mistakes with God, just providential steps. It was God who sent Joseph to Egypt. (Gen. 45:8)

Joseph had a revelation of his calling. He believed and trusted God who had chosen him. He had two character traits that set him apart from most people: he never gave up and he never had anything negative to say! At the young age of 17 his brothers planned to kill him. When human slave traders happened by, the brothers gave up their idea to kill him. Instead they decided to sell him to those slave traders! The next thing he knew, he was in Pharaoh’s house and second in command over all Egypt. God set him up to provide for his family when there was a famine in the land. God sent him to Egypt to preserve posterity in the earth and he does that with us also.

Paul seemed to understand this as he wrote to the church in Philippi. Read Phil 3:7-21 where he describes how he was willing to suffer for the prize that lay ahead. He had the revelation that nothing that happened to him was outside of God’s knowledge. Next time you’re going through a trial, remember that it might just be that you are being positioned to preserve the lives of your family, to preserve posterity in the earth!

The Invitation

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. It is impossible to live without sinning. That’s why God provided a sacrifice, His Son. Jesus who did not sin became an eternal sacrifice for all who believe that! He died a horrible death on the cross. He paid an awful price so that you and I could be saved. If you know that you have sinned and want to be forgiven, turn from your wicked ways and accept God’s provision. Pray this simple prayer: Lord, I know that I am a sinner and I want to be forgiven. I accept Jesus as my Lord and turn from all evil. Jesus come into my heart and fill me with your precious Holy Spirit. I am born again. Thank you Lord!

You don’t have to pray it out loud or in a church, but you do need to confess it before others. If you prayed this and believed it in your heart, you are now a child of God. You are saved. You have a home in Heaven and all the angels are rejoicing because you have turned to God! Get a bible and begin reading it. The book of John is a great place to start. Be sure to find others to share your faith with and find a place where you can worship God with others of like and precious faith. Welcome to the family of God!
